Asian Kickboxing Confederation is pleased to announced that following the recommendation of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Executive Board to grant full recognition  to six International Federations (World Association of Kickboxing Organisations (WAKO), International Federation of Muaythai Associations (IFMA), International Sambo Federation (FIAS), International Cheerleading Union (ICU),  International Federation Icestocksport (IFI), World Lacrosse (WL)), the International Olympic Committee’s General Assembly during its 138th Session early today Tuesday 20 July 2021 approved and granted by unanimous vote the full recognition to the six above mentioned International Sports Federations including WAKO.

The IOC Board meeting held in Tokyo, Japan on 30 November 2018,  had granted to the World Association of Kickboxing Organizations (WAKO) the provisional recognition pursuant to Rule 25 of the Olympic Charter. The provisional recognition for a period up to three years reflected the WAKO’s embrace of the values of the Olympic Charter.

This is the fruit of long years of work, started at the beginning of the years 2000 and above all, a work built by the Asian Kickboxing Confederation with the obtaining of recognition of the sport of Kickboxing by Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) in September 2005, the recognition of Asian Kickboxing Confederation by Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) as body in charge of Kickboxing in Asian continent, inclusion of Kickboxing in prestigious Asian Olympic Games such as the Indoor Games in 2007, the Asian Martial Arts in 2009, the Asian Indoor & Martial Arts Games 2013, 20017 and finally in the South East Asian Games 2019 and 2021 known as the SEA Games.

We would like to congratulate all WAKO members and in particular, the Continental Confederations for their contribution and coordination forwarding all necessary information and documents needed for our application.
