2020-05-29 Kickboxing sport has been confirmed in AIMAG 6, Thailand 2021

Asian Kickboxing Confederation (WAKO ASIA) is pleased to announce, the confirmation of inclusion of Kickboxing sport in prestigious AIMAG 6 Thailand 2021 by Olympic Council of Asia (OCA).

The AIMAG, officially known as the Asian Indoor & Martial Arts Games and commonly is an Asian multi-sport event that will take place every 4 years. The 6th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games 2021 will be held in Thailand.

The eligibility of participation is reserved to the teams representing the Asian countries National Olympic Games.

There were only 24 sports included in the initial list for next year’s IMAG 6 in the Thailand, as announced on April 28, 2020. However, the Olympic Council of Asia has announced on May 22, 2020 the dates and the sports program for the 6th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games (AIMAG) in Thailand next year with confirmation of 28 medal sport including Kickboxing as official sports and two demonstration sports.

The 28 sports for AIMAG 6 are: Indoor Athletics, Cue Sports, Bowling, Dance Sport, Chess, Futsal (Men and Women), Roller Sports/Sport Climbing, Short Course Swimming (25m), Muay, Jujitsu, BMX Cycling, Hoop Takraw/Speak Takraw, Kurash, Floorball, Netball, Taekwondo, Indoor Hockey, Karate, E-Sport, Badminton, Pencak Silat, Cheer Leading, Sambo, Indoor Rowing, Indoor Volleyball (Men and Women), Basketball 3×3 (Men and Women), Traditional Wrestling, Kickboxing.

The two demonstration sports are: Teqball, Air Sport (Indoor Drone)

Nasser Nassiri, President of Asian Kickboxing Confederation (WAKO ASIA) declared: This confirmation is fruit of Asian Kickboxing Confederation hard works and achievements during last years.

We undertook various actions developing our sport in Asia. We were one of the most successful sport event of SEA Games 2019 Philippines. The success of organization of Kickboxing competition during AIMAG Ashgabat 2017 with participation of teams representing 18 National Olympic Committee with historical participation China National Olympic Committee presenting Kickboxing team.

Mr. Nassiri added: We had also great experience and success back in Thailand during 2005 Bangkok Asian Martial Arts Games and Kickboxing will be one of the most particular sport

About the Asian Indoor & Martial Arts Games under the auspices of the Olympic Council of Asia

  • 1st Asian Indoor Games took place in 2005 in Thailand,
  • 2nd Asian Indoor Games took place in 2007 in Macau,
  • 1st Asian Martial Arts Games took place in 2009 in Thailand,
  • 3rd Asian Indoor Games took place in 2009 in Vietnam,

After these games, which were held every two years, the Olympic Council of Asia decided to merge the Asian Indoor Games and the Asian Martial Arts Games, which since 2013 have been held every four years.

  • 4th Asian Indoor & Martial Arts Games took place in 2013 in South Korea,
  • 5th Asian Indoor & Martial Arts Games took place in 2017 in South Korea,
  • 6th Asian Indoor & Martial Arts Games will take place in 2021 in Thailand.
