The Southeast Asian Games Federation (SEA Games) announced that the 31st Southeast Asian Games (31st SEA Games) in Vietnam this year will be postponed.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 31st SEA Games sports event, which was scheduled to take place in Vietnam from November 21 to December 2, will be postponed to 2022 and is likely to be held in the first quarter of 2022.
The Southeast Asian Sports Federation declared that all member states of the federation had approved this decision, based on the fact that the COVID-19 pandemic situation in South Asian Nations has not improved.
The federation also highly appreciated Vietnam for the efforts that the host country has made so far to prepare for the biggest sporting event in the region. Earlier, on the afternoon of June 9, the Vietnam Olympic Committee hosted an online meeting with the participants being the Coordination Office of the Southeast Asian Sports Federation and representatives of the Olympic Committees of the countries in the region to review opinions on the organization of the 31st SEA Games.
Facing the complicated situation of the COVID-19 pandemic in the country as well as in the region, the Vietnam Olympic Committee has proposed to postpone the time of holding the 31st SEA Games to July 2022.
Mr. Nasser Nassiri, President of Asian Kickboxing Confederation declared : “We understand the reason for the decision of postponing the event and fully support it. the Asian Kickboxing Confederation spent more than one year preparing all logistic for the Kickboxing competition and we are ready for the challenge whatever dates is decided for holding the 31st SEA Games”.
